Neck and Shoulder Pain
The medical professionals at Back In Action Medical Center can help you find the relief you are looking for. There are many reasons for neck and shoulder pain. Degenerative disc disease, neck pain from sprain or strain, sports injury, herniated disk, pinched nerve, polymyalgia rheumatica (inflammatory disorder responsible for muscle pain), fibromyalgia (widespread muscle pain), and even viral, or bacterial infections can cause neck and shoulder pain. Many people go to bed feeling fine and wake up not even able to move their neck—this is called torticollis (contraction of the neck muscles). Sometimes, the neck can refer pain into the shoulder resulting in an ache that just won’t go away.
Some neck and shoulder pain sufferers try massage therapy, acupuncture, or chiropractic and have temporary relief, but the symptoms just return.
It is important to get an accurate diagnosis of your neck and shoulder pain prior to receiving treatment. Many times, a good history, x-rays, and comprehensive exam will arrive at a diagnosis, but other times an MRI, EMG, or another study may be necessary to arrive at the proper diagnosis. It is possible to have a neck problem that causes shoulder pain, neck pain that is independent of the shoulder pain, or pain in both areas that are independent of each other.
Our unique TEAM approach to your pain will result in the proper diagnosis and treatment plan for your condition.
