Spinal Decompression

An Innovative and Effective Alternative to Surgery

  • Spinal decompression is a noninvasive, effective treatment that allows your spinal discs to heal naturally.
  • The damage to your spinal disc heals without surgical intervention, which can cause further trauma and pain and involve huge expenses and long recovery times.
  • Rather than removing parts of the spine to create space for the discs to heal, spinal decompression uses a negative intradiscal pressure.
  • Our medical professionals have the experience and training to offer you this innovative method of treating back and neck pain.

You’ve only got one back, so treat it well! At Back In Action Medical, we offer spinal decompression to restore your spinal disc functioning to a healthy and operational condition.

Spinal decompression works by gradually stretching and creating space in the spinal column. This slow stretching relieves the pressure on your discs, allowing them to retract and spinal fluids to flow more freely. This reduced pressure improves the blood circulation and increases healing nutrients, including oxygen, water, and other nutrient-rich fluids surrounding the problem disc to promote natural healing and rehydration. Over a period of several weeks, you will be able to resume your normal daily activities.

Spinal discs provide cushioning between the vertebrae in your spine. They have two parts, a tough, round exterior made of collagen fibers, and an inner network of fibers contained in a protein gel, called the nucleus pulposus. Your spine contains 23 of these discs. When any one of these discs is damaged, you may develop a painful condition.

Spinal decompression can help if you have one of the following conditions:

  • A herniated disc – some of the inner gel pushes out of the disc through a break or crack
  • A bulging disc – the disc bulges beyond the available space in the spinal canal
  • A degenerated disc – the disc loses fluid or the exterior of the disc tears or cracks
  • Sciatica – a disc herniation presses on nerve roots
  • Disc degeneration – sometimes accompanied by bone spurs (osteophytes), or small bone growths that protrude from the vertebrae

Is Spinal Decompression Safe?

YES. People have been using traction therapy for thousands of years. More than 50,000 patients are successfully treated with spinal decompression each year. And technological innovations have yielded more modern equipment.

Treatments are gentle and comfortable, and have a proven safety record. Our doctors have specialized medical training and years of experience. We use FDA-cleared equipment to provide your therapy in a comfortable office setting.
What Can I Expect?
  • If spinal decompression is the appropriate method to treat your condition, we will schedule a series of 15 to 20 sessions.
  • During a treatment session, you will lie fully clothed on your back or stomach, with padding placed around your trunk or pelvis.
  • Treatments last between 30 and 45 minutes.
  • Your specific course of care may consist of multiple treatment modes.
